Village Tour Guide

Cuandixia Village (爨底下村)

Village Introduction

Cuandixia Village, located in Mentougou District, is a well-preserved ancient village with over 400 years of history. Built during the Ming Dynasty, the village features unique architectural style with 76 courtyard houses arranged in a terraced pattern along the mountain slope.

The village is famous for its "gold ingot" layout, where the streets and alleys form the shape of ancient Chinese gold ingots. Each courtyard has its own unique features, with elaborate wood carvings and stone inscriptions. The village has been used as a filming location for many movies and TV dramas.

Must-Visit Attractions: (1) Golden Toad Mountain Viewing Platform (金蟾山观景台) - The best spot to overlook the entire "gold ingot" shaped ancient village. (2) Yixiantian (一线天) - A natural gorge formed by water erosion, with towering cliffs and only a narrow strip of sky visible. It's cool and perfect for photos, and was also a filming location for the movie "The Warlords". (3) Ming-Qing Courtyard Houses (明清四合院) - Over 70 mountain courtyard houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties still exist in the village.

Must-Try Food: Clay Oven Bread (窑烤面包) - The clay oven bread at the village entrance is extremely popular. Be sure to try the freshly baked ones - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The croissants come highly recommended!
